Vincent van Gogh painted a series of works featuring cypress trees during his voluntary stay at an asylum at Saint-Rémy, France. After some debilitating mental health episodes in the summer of 1889, he turned to this bucolic subject when he was recovered enough to paint again . He wrote to his brother Theo, “I have a canvas of cypresses with some ears of wheat, …a blue sky like a piece of Scotch plaid; the former painted with a thick impasto…”

With his swirling brushwork, he captures the movement of the clouds across the sky over the windswept field. Our Luminary celebrates a moment in detail of the impasto technique in this masterwork.

We have a 14-day return policy. To be eligible for a return, your item must be in the same condition as when you received it—unworn or unused, with tags, and in its original packaging.
